Capacity Development

Capacity Building for Local Government, Seeta, 19th - 20th December 2008

Capacity Development Division

The Human Rights Education component of FHRI's programme seeks to promote citizen awareness of basic fundamental rights and obligations; foster public dialogue on how best to protect and preserve human rights whether civil, political, economic, social or cultural. The awareness of these fundamental freedoms and liberties would contribute to the evolution of a strong democratic and human rights culture and thus create a strong and effective foundation for a sound premise for democratic governance. As a change agent in the governance and development arena, FHRI continues to promote dialogue on key human rights issues as a way of bringing permanent improvements in Uganda's human rights record at the political, economic, social and cultural front with an overall objective of:

“Building the civic competence of democratic structures for effective participation in governance.”

FHRI's Capacity Development Division shall execute four key activities:

  • Capacity Building for Local Government;
  • Capacity Building for Community Based Associations;
  • Capacity Building for the Judiciary; and
  • Leadership Development for Human Rights Defenders.
